Britney Spears has debuted at #1 on the US billboard 200 selling 505,073 copies in her first week with her new album Circus. Her nearest competitor Taylor Swift dropped to #2 selling 182,517 after three weeks on the chart. This is especially astounding considering her critically praised previous album Blackout only managed to shift 290,000 copies. Blackout debuted at #2 after a last minute rule change by Billboard which meant the Eagles beat her to #1.
In addition to this success, she has the #1 video and song on iTunes at the moment with her new single Circus meaning she will most likely debut top 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 this Wednesday.
